The Health Department has announced the launch of a new Continuity Care Point in the municipality of Torrevieja, which will begin operations during the first week of August at the El Acequión health centre. This initiative aims to enhance emergency healthcare outside of regular hours and adds to the existing Continuity Care Point at the La Loma health centre. With this new addition, Torrevieja will be equipped with two out-of-hospital emergency points for the first time, responding to the population growth observed in recent years and the need to adapt healthcare resources to current demand.

Previously, the La Loma health centre was the only facility offering this service, managing an average of two hundred and thirty patients daily, with spikes of up to three hundred and forty during peak times. The new Continuity Care Point at El Acequión will operate from three o’clock in the afternoon until eight o’clock the following morning, Monday through Friday. On Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, the service will be available twenty-four hours a day.

According to the Health Department, this reorganisation will help ease the burden on hospital emergency services and the La Loma Continuity Care Point, enhancing response times, improving quality of care, and optimising resources within the Torrevieja Health Department. This change represents a significant advancement in the zoning of emergency services in the municipality, allowing for a fairer distribution of ongoing care across the five health centres in the city: La Loma, Acequión, La Mata, Patricio Pérez, and San Luis.

The Health Department has emphasised that the ultimate goal is to provide more accessible, effective, and localised healthcare for all citizens, particularly during high-demand periods such as the summer months.
