The Town Council of Torrevieja has successfully removed a palm tree that was dangerously leaning on Paseo Vista Alegre. This action was taken by the Parks and Gardens department to guarantee the safety of pedestrians. The removal was carried out by Actúa, the company responsible for maintaining green areas within the municipality, and it was executed in a controlled manner without any incidents.

This preventive measure comes in the wake of a recent incident where high winds caused another palm tree to fall on the same promenade. Following this event, technicians inspected other palm trees in the area and identified one that posed an imminent risk of falling. The council reiterated that maintaining urban trees is vital, not only to preserve the city’s green heritage but also to protect the safety of both residents and visitors.

Concha Sala, the councillor for Parks and Gardens, noted that some of the Phoenix Dactylifera palm trees have been growing for between sixty to seventy years. To address potential risks, the council will intensify monitoring and assessment of their condition. The recent removal of the hazardous tree is one such example of this proactive approach.
