The town hall of Orihuela has announced the introduction of a new municipal vehicle fleet comprising fifty-four vehicles, acquired through a financial leasing system known as renting. This initiative, which involves an investment of three point two million euros, is part of a strategy to modernise municipal mobility resources, improve safety, and minimise environmental impact.

The new fleet includes various types of vehicles tailored to meet the specific requirements of different municipal departments. The fleet features two cars for general transport, thirteen vans, three trucks, a dual-load off-road vehicle, twelve police cars, six police motorcycles, as well as two gardening vehicles and one mobile park vehicle, as specified in the bidding documents. The leasing contract for these vehicles has a duration of five years.

Orihuela’s mayor, Pepe Vegara, highlighted the importance of this renovation, stating that the new fleet will provide modern, efficient, and sustainable vehicles, underscoring the administration’s commitment to resource management and the safety of its workers. The councillor for the mobile park, Mónica Pastor, added that this upgrade was essential, as the previous fleet was outdated and led to high maintenance costs.

In recent years, the municipality has embraced the renting model instead of outright purchases. This approach ensures that the supplying company is responsible for maintaining all vehicles throughout the entire leasing period, thus relieving the town hall of maintenance obligations while ensuring the use of safer and more environmentally friendly vehicles.
