Work has officially begun on the rehabilitation of the Ice Factory building in Torrevieja, starting with the demolition of the historic Salinas Group of Companies. This initiative aims to adapt the area around the Salt Eras and the Museum of the Sea and Salt. Over the coming days, the site will be reconditioned with a temporary fence and modular construction sheds, under the supervision of an archaeology team hired by the City Council, aligning with the requirements set by the Cultural Heritage of the Generalitat Valenciana.

Mayor Eduardo Dolón announced that construction will continue over the next few weeks without disrupting traffic on this vital route into the city. The redesigned building will feature two functional spaces: a modernised Tourist Office alongside the reception area for the Sea and Salt Museum. This marks a significant investment in local tourism and infrastructure.

The annex building will further enhance the capabilities of the Department of Tourism, including the establishment of a Centre for Innovation and Tourism Management. Additionally, it may accommodate other municipal services, such as the International Residents Assistance Office and the Migrant Assistance Office, all aimed at optimising citizen services.

The total investment for this project amounts to almost six point five million euros, with an eighteen-month completion timeline. Notably, the Valencian Government has pledged one hundred thousand euros for the 2025 fiscal year to promote restoration and expansion efforts, with further investments of two million euros planned for the following two years.
