A report from the Local Police of Orihuela reveals that thirty-one accidents have occurred along the coastline over the last six months due to deteriorating road conditions. Most of these incidents were connected to potholes, with only one accident resulting in injuries, involving an electric scooter falling over a significant bump on Acuario Street. Others mainly caused damage to tyres.

The report indicates that the Villamartín-Los Dolses road has the highest number of reported accidents. Local residents expressed concerns prompting the Public Prosecutor’s Office to investigate alleged breaches of road safety laws. They claim that municipal authorities have neglected road maintenance, leading to injuries and property damage.

Over the past five years, a contract existed for road maintenance, but residents argue it was ineffective. They stated inadequate asphalt prevented proper repairs, highlighting a lack of both preventive and corrective maintenance, which they believe points to negligence by the municipality.

In response to the concerns, the municipality recently announced that streets in Torrezenia, previously neglected for over a decade, have been fully resurfaced as part of the community’s participatory budget from two thousand nineteen. However, residents are dissatisfied, pointing out that many roads remain in poor condition and the completion of the overall project is uncertain.
