The regional government will contribute three million seven hundred seventy thousand euros for the construction of a new underground bus station in Murcia, accounting for twenty-six percent of the overall investment estimated at fourteen point five million euros. Councillor Jorge García Montoro announced the project today, which is also funded by central and local administrations. The initiative seeks to improve mobility for the city of Murcia and its metropolitan area.

García Montoro described the bus station as crucial for developing a modern intermodal transport hub integrated into its surroundings, prepared for sustainable mobility challenges. He noted that the regional government’s investment for the high-speed train project has reached nearly one hundred forty-four million euros, emphasising efficiency and sustainability in transport connections.

The future bus station will be located south of the high-speed train station, mainly developed underground beneath the square near the railway. It will feature an underground parking area for eighteen bus bays and a passenger terminal, both separated by glass walls to ensure safe and efficient movement.

Additional amenities will include a café, ticket offices, a control room, waiting areas, administrative spaces, and a designated area for police. Designed to incorporate photovoltaic panels, the station’s roof will align with the elliptical pergola planned for the urban project in the square. The basic project is expected to be completed by the end of July this year, with execution planned for completion by the end of twenty twenty-five, and construction anticipated to take twenty-four months following clearance of current railway sites.
