The National Police arrested Simone Bartiromo, a fugitive linked to the Camorra, in Orihuela Costa on Wednesday afternoon. Born in nineteen eighty-nine, Bartiromo is the leader of the Sorianello clan, associated with Secondigliano, and is heavily involved in drug trafficking. He has been on Italy’s most wanted list and faces twenty-four years in prison for various drug offenses.

The extensive investigation began last year when officials suspected Bartiromo might be hiding in Spain while continuing his illegal activities. Over a period of thirteen months, various units from the National Police in Alicante, Madrid, and Málaga, alongside the Italian Carabinieri, collaborated to trace his movements.

Through intelligence-sharing via the National FAST Network and FAST Italia, investigators pinpointed the residential complex in Orihuela Costa where Bartiromo was believed to be living. On Wednesday, he was apprehended as he attempted to leave his residence and enter a parked vehicle.

Bartiromo is suspected of being a key supplier of cocaine to other criminal organisations across Europe. As a result, he is facing serious charges related to drug trafficking, which could lead to a lengthy prison sentence if convicted.
