Swimmers with reduced mobility have reported serious accessibility issues at Paseo del Puerto beach since early July. Holidaymakers stated that all available amphibious chairs have either broken or been damaged, preventing them from entering the water safely. Gema Parra, who visited from Madrid with her mother, noted that the chair has been unavailable since July fourth, and attempts to find operational chairs at other beaches have also been unsuccessful.

Similar concerns were raised by Adrián Juárez García, who often visits Mazarrón during the summer. He attempted to reserve an amphibious chair in advance but found the equipment non-operational. Novaf, the company that supplies the chairs, stated that they are designed to last two to three summers. However, they also indicated that maintenance is crucial to extend the lifespan of the equipment.

The local Tourism Institute conducts annual reviews of accessible services on beaches, sending findings to municipal governments responsible for maintenance. In twenty twenty-one, there were thirty-two beaches accessible to people with disabilities in the Region of Murcia. These spaces include bathing chairs, walkways for easier access, and Red Cross stations that offer free assisted bathing services.

With the continued challenges at Paseo del Puerto beach, there is an urgent need for local authorities to take immediate action to repair and maintain accessible facilities. Holidaymakers and their families are advocating for prompt attention to ensure that everyone can enjoy the beach experience safely.
