Residents of Orihuela Costa have turned down an offer from Orihuela City Council to settle the dispute over a path that has been blocked since two thousand twenty-one. Last week, the council proposed twenty-six thousand one hundred eighty euros to allow the demolition of the wall between Aguamarina and La Caleta, but homeowners refused to accept the settlement. As a result, the case has returned to the courts for further advice on how to proceed.

The contentious wall was erected after a court ruling forced the council to close the path, turning it into private access for residents of Bellavista. This closure has been frustrating for local residents and walkers, as visitors have to make a two-kilometre detour around a stretch that measures just sixty metres. The council, which budgeted thirty-eight thousand three hundred five euros to demolish the wall, had hoped to have the path reopened by summer.

Despite the City Council’s readiness to carry out the demolition and improvements to the surrounding area, residents remain adamant about their objections to the settlement offered. They hope to continue negotiating a fair resolution to the matter while still facing the ongoing inconvenience of the blocked path.

As the saga unfolds, locals and visitors alike will have to continue avoiding the short passage that has been a popular route for walkers. The courts are now expected to provide guidance on how the City Council can move forward with the demolition process.
