The Consellera of Innovation, Industry, Commerce and Tourism, Marián Cano, has urged the prompt expansion of Valencia and Alicante-Elche airports. This request follows the latest air traffic figures released by Aena, indicating record numbers during the month of June. Cano advocated for a new runway at Alicante-Elche and an expansion of the terminal in Valencia to accommodate growing demand.

In a statement, Cano emphasised that these expansions should be immediate priorities for maintaining the competitiveness of both tourism and the broader economy in the Valencian Community. She stated that the data reinforces the need to expedite infrastructural developments as they are vital for the region’s growth.

Both airports currently operate beyond their technical capacities, managing unprecedented numbers of passengers and showcasing sustained growth trends. Cano indicated that the June figures serve as a clear indicator of the strategic importance of these facilities.

She concluded by noting that timely improvements would enable the continued provision of services to millions of visitors annually, furthering both tourism and logistical developments in the region.
