The San Javier municipality has announced a comprehensive safety plan for the beaches of Santiago de la Ribera and La Manga del Mar Menor this summer. The initiative will see more than seventy staff members, including fifty lifeguards, supervising nineteen posts and seventeen proximity chairs daily from eleven in the morning until seven in the evening. This measure aims to ensure safety for sunbathers and beachgoers throughout the warm months.

The safety plan was presented at Barnuevo beach by Mayor José Miguel Luengo and the Councillor for Civil Protection, Sergio Martínez. The service, which commenced during Holy Week, will remain active until the thirtieth of September. It will utilise an array of equipment such as two jet skis, two rapid intervention vehicles, two quads, and six kayaks, alongside standard lifesaving materials.

Highlighting the municipality’s commitment to accessible beach experiences, Martínez shared that the plan also includes six accessibility locations staffed by fourteen bathing aides. These aides will assist users from eleven in the morning until two and then again from five to seven in the evening. The service features sixteen amphibious chairs, twenty bathing crutches, and two transfer cranes available upon request.

The cost of the beach safety service totals eight hundred fifty-six thousand six hundred eighty-five euros, with funding from the regional government contributing one hundred twenty-five thousand three hundred forty-three euros. The Mayor and Councillor expressed their best wishes to the lifeguards for a successful service during the busy summer season, marking a collaborative effort with local police and civil protection for safe beach enjoyment across the municipality’s thirty-five kilometres of coastline.
