The National Police have successfully dismantled two criminal organisations engaged in drug trafficking in Benidorm. The operation led to the arrest of twenty individuals, comprising seventeen men and three women, facing charges such as drug trafficking, criminal association, illegal possession of weapons, and making threats. The investigations began in February after authorities detected one of the networks using QR codes placed in tourist and public areas to facilitate drug sales.

These QR codes directed potential buyers to private messaging channels where drug sales and deliveries were arranged, either directly or via urban hiding spots. Through thorough investigations, a larger supplier network was identified that not only supported the primary organisation but also supplied other similar groups, revealing a well-structured hierarchy and processing facilities.

During the operation’s first phase, eight individuals were arrested, yielding nearly two kilograms of cannabis, over one kilogram of hashish, cocaine, MDMA, and other substances, alongside cash, vehicles, and drug handling materials. The second phase saw the arrest of ten more individuals and the discovery of a clandestine laboratory where four kilograms of cocaine, almost six kilograms of cannabis, firearms, cash, and drug processing equipment were seized.

Currently, three of the primary suspects are in custody, while further arrests are anticipated as investigations continue to unfold. The police remain vigilant in their efforts to combat drug trafficking in the area.
