Orihuela Costa is reinforcing its security measures ahead of the busy summer season. The local council announced a comprehensive security operation that will utilise land, sea, and air resources to ensure safety along the coast. Mayor Pepe Vegara presented the initiative at Playa Flamenca, calling for more Guardia Civil officers to support local efforts in maintaining order, particularly in light of recent security incidents involving injuries from knife attacks in the area.

The revamped operation will consist of fifty-six personnel, including agents, officers, and team leaders. This year’s initiative features enhanced technological support, with drones deployed for aerial surveillance and watercraft ensuring immediate response to incidents in coastal areas. Local police will be complemented by officers dedicated to overseeing these operations, all supervised by Rubén Selma, acting head of the Local Police.

In line with the local council’s commitment to year-round security, the initiative will not only focus on the peak summer months but aims to maintain these enhanced resources throughout the year. The move comes as community concerns rise regarding increased insecurity, following violent incidents over the weekend, underscoring the urgent need for a robust security response during this season.

Lastly, pedestrian safety measures will also be reinforced, including a rapid response vehicle for emergencies that will operate seven days a week. This proactive approach aims to prevent potential fire incidents and ensure quick action during emergencies, reflecting the council’s dedication to the safety and wellbeing of residents and visitors alike.
