Orihuela town hall has announced the completion of significant repair works aimed at improving road safety and coastal infrastructure. The urgent project involved filling two hundred and fifty seven potholes across eighty three streets in various coastal urbanisations like Campoamor, Cabo Roig and La Zenia. Councillor Manuel Mestre highlighted that the project was essential due to heavy rainfall that had deteriorated road conditions, classifying it as an emergency procedure to expedite the repairs.

With an investment of over seventy five thousand euros, the work commenced on April thirtieth and was finished ahead of the scheduled two-month deadline. Mestre praised the swift progress of the project, aiming to enhance safety for both residents and visitors navigating busy roads.

While the repairs have been well received, residents expressed concerns regarding the state of the remaining potholes, which they believe continue to pose a risk. One tragic incident involved a young girl who suffered injuries due to an unfilled pothole, prompting calls from the Unidos Por La Costa residents’ association for further action from the town hall.

In addition to pothole repairs, the town hall’s coastal department successfully repaired a section of the sea wall between Playa de la Glea and Aguamarina. This work was crucial to ensuring the safety of the walkway used by residents and visitors. The repair involved reinstating stones that had fallen out due to erosion, thus protecting the integrity of the coastal structure and aiding in preserving the local landscape.
