A substantial plan has been launched to modernise and enhance infrastructure in La Manga, one of the Region of Murcia’s prime coastal tourist attractions. La Manga, developed in the second half of the twentieth century, has transformed from a quiet area into a bustling destination, with a population that can exceed two hundred fifty thousand during peak summer months.

The project, particularly focused in the San Javier region, has been greenlit to allow construction capacity of approximately six million one hundred fifty thousand cubic metres across collective housing developments. This development is expected to yield nearly twenty thousand new homes alongside commercial, hotel, and recreational facilities, with current plans indicating that eighty per cent of these developments have already been completed.

The infrastructure planning process is complicated by La Manga’s unique geography and administrative structure. With only one access road at its southern end, and essential services sourced from adjacent municipalities, careful coordination between Cartagena, San Javier, and San Pedro del Pinatar is crucial.

The collaboration aims to create a unified approach, ensuring that roads, utilities, communication networks, and emergency services can adequately support both seasonal tourism peaks and future growth in the area.
