The AP-7 tunnel, which has been closed for over a month following a fatal truck fire, is scheduled to reopen on the last weekend of June. This announcement was made by the Mayor of Pilar de la Horadada, José María Pérez Sánchez, on social media and will come as welcome news for many residents and tourists heading to the beaches in Campoamor, Torre de la Horadada, and Mil Palmeras.

Since the closure, traffic has been diverted onto the N-332, leading to significant congestion, particularly as the holiday season approaches. Many drivers have faced frustrating delays at the border between the Region of Murcia and Alicante, especially on weekends when visitors return from the coast.

Mayor Pérez Sánchez has held discussions with officials from the Ministry of Transport regarding alternative traffic solutions. However, he noted that the options are limited and increasing traffic flow remains challenging. While doubling the open lane could ease the situation, safety regulations prevent the use of a single carriageway for two-way traffic.

Although the reopening date provides some relief, the situation remains complicated as further repairs to the damaged infrastructure are necessary. The Mayor assured the public that efforts are being made to expedite the repairs and will keep them informed of any further updates as they become available.
