The Hospital Universitario de Torrevieja has launched a virtual reality system in its Paediatrics Unit to provide enhanced emotional support during medical treatments and procedures. This initiative, made possible by donations from the Rotary Club and Agamed, introduces a clinically validated platform designed for paediatric patients. It features state-of-the-art virtual reality glasses, a control tablet, and a comprehensive library of therapeutic content.

The new system aims to alleviate pain, reduce anxiety, and promote emotional well-being in children through immersive content. With no internet connection required and an intuitive operation for healthcare staff, it optimises time and reduces the need for analgesic medications. Applications include blood tests, wound care, intravenous access, and vaccinations, significantly lowering stress and discomfort for young patients.

Clinical evidence has shown promising results, with a documented average decrease of eight point seven eight beats per minute in heart rates during vaccinations in children aged three to six. Additionally, ninety nine point three percent of parents recommend the technology, while the satisfaction level among both paediatric and adult patients reaches ninety five point five percent.
