On Friday, the sixth of June, two thousand twenty-five, Rojales Town Hall organised a protest named ‘Stop Genocide’. The gathering saw participation from over one hundred locals and residents from nearby municipalities. The aim of the event was to show support for the Palestinian people during ongoing tensions and conflicts in the region.

Councillor Tatiana De Gea addressed the crowd, highlighting the intention to pass an institutional declaration condemning what they referred to as Israel’s criminal aggression against Palestine at the next council meeting. This declaration will be forwarded to the central government, as well as the embassies of Israel and Palestine.

De Gea reminded attendees of the tragic events of the seventh of October, two thousand twenty-three, when Hamas carried out an incursion resulting in significant civilian casualties in Israel. She stated that since that date, Israel’s actions have led to the deaths of over fifty-four thousand Palestinians and accused them of subjecting the people of Gaza to relentless destruction and suffering.

In support of these sentiments, Culture Councillor Inmaculada Chazarra reinforced calls for an end to the occupation, echoing the need for justice and peace in the region. The demonstration signifies Rojales’ commitment as a local government to address and openly reject the violence affecting the Palestinian population.
