Sueña Torrevieja has raised concerns over the chaotic management by the local Popular Party in the run-up to the high summer season. Many essential beach services remain unfinished, with safety buoys still not installed, posing risks to swimmers. It has been reported that there are already forty-six days of delay since the buoys were supposed to be in place by the twelfth of April, which creates a dangerous environment for bathers, especially during peak times.

The absence of beach bars, which should have been operational since the fifteenth of March, compounds the issue. Furthermore, basic amenities such as deck chairs, sun umbrellas, and toilet cleaning services are also missing, creating a troubling impression as summer draws near. The allocation of contracts for these services has not yet occurred, leaving locals and tourists waiting.

An application for the buoys was approved on the twenty-first of February. However, the process has faced setbacks and, as of the sixteenth of May, it was sent back for further evaluation due to key discrepancies identified in the report. Since this redirection, there have been no updates on progress within the State Procurement Platform.

Pablo Samper, spokesperson for Sueña Torrevieja, has labelled the situation a “catastrophic management scenario.” He asserts that, with the busy season nearing, the local government’s lack of planning is unacceptable. Samper questions when action will be taken, saying, “What needs to happen for the council to respond, a serious accident?” The local community is anxiously awaiting resolution as the traditional summer influx approaches.
