Benidorm has reaffirmed its status as Spain’s third most popular tourist destination, trailing only the major cities of Madrid and Barcelona. The latest report, the ‘Atlas of Municipal Contribution of Tourism in Spain,’ released by Exceltur, ranks Benidorm first among coastal destinations, with a remarkable ninety-six thousand nine hundred and eighty accommodation spaces currently available. The town’s population may be just over seventy-three thousand, but its tourist capacity is exceptionally high, making it a beacon for visitors.

In addition to Benidorm, the province of Alicante features ten municipalities in the national ranking of top one hundred locations with the highest accommodation capacity. Notable ranks include Calp in seventeenth place and Torrevieja at twenty-second. The report emphasizes that the majority of recent growth in accommodation offerings has come from tourist rentals rather than traditional hotels, marking a significant shift in local tourism dynamics.

Exceltur notes that across Spain, there was a twenty-five point three percent increase in tourist accommodation spaces in private dwellings from twenty twenty-two to twenty twenty-four. Benidorm saw a twenty-one point six percent increase. This continues to highlight how essential the tourism sector is to the local economy, with over sixty-four percent of Benidorm’s economic activity linked to the industry, resulting in approximately seventeen thousand four hundred jobs being generated in twenty twenty-four.
