The Guardia Civil in the Murcia region achieved a significant victory against drug trafficking, intercepting one of the largest ecstasy shipments ever recorded at sea. The operation took place in the waters near Mazarrón, where officers discovered over one hundred thousand pills of the synthetic drug MDMA, commonly known as ecstasy.

The patrol, as part of the vigilance services established to monitor Spanish territorial waters, responded to suspicions raised by the sighting of a high-speed inflatable boat near the island of Los Lobos. Officers approached the vessel discreetly and apprehended it, discovering several bags filled with pills and fourteen fuel canisters on board.

The boat’s captain was arrested on-site, facing charges of drug trafficking and smuggling. The operation also resulted in the seizure of one inflatable boat, fuel canisters, and a satellite phone, assisting in the ongoing investigation.

Authorities remain committed to tackling drug trafficking and human trafficking within Spanish waters. The investigation is ongoing, with efforts concentrated on dismantling trafficking networks in the region.
