Four arrested after Elche cannabis farm is dismantled

Spain’s National Police has dismantled an indoor cannabis farm in Elche and arrested four people aged between 28 and 36. Franz Weber Foundation calls for dolphin shows to be banned at Mundomar

The Franz Weber Foundation has called for a ban on dolphin and sea lion shows at Mundomar in Benidorm. The organisation is campaigning for changes to Spanish legislation governing the use of cetaceans in zoos and aquariums, drawing on restrictions introduced in France. Wild boar control plan removes more than 5,300 animals in Valencia region

The Generalitat Valenciana has removed 5,337 wild boar through its population control plan by early September. Hunters accounted for 3,192 animals, while 2,145 were captured in cages. The operation aims to reduce health, environmental and road safety risks, including African swine fever, crop damage and traffic collisions. Torrevieja hospital expansion to add beds, services and staff

The president of the Generalitat, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, has announced a €175 million expansion of Torrevieja University Hospital. The project will add 30,000 square metres of floor space and increase the number of beds from 270 to 457. It will also provide 150 new outpatient clinics, four operating theatres, new delivery suites, expanded critical care areas and more intensive care and haemodialysis capacity. Torrevieja opens new university and Agamed building

Torrevieja has inaugurated a new building on Calle Concepción, four years after construction began. The facility, which cost nearly €4.8 million, will house the offices of water company Agamed and a new university campus. Spain’s Guardia Civil has arrested a 43-year-old Romanian man in Torrevieja, Alicante, who was wanted by German authorities over his alleged involvement in a homicide involving assault and serious injuries. Torrevieja lifeguards have rescued a German man after his competition sailing boat was left drifting during Wednesday’s storm. An orange weather warning for heavy rain and strong winds was in force when a resident of Ferrís contacted the emergency services shortly after 5pm.
