Rain and thunderstorms are expected to return to Alicante province from Thursday, after several days of sunshine. A trough moving into eastern Spain and the Balearic Islands is expected to bring unsettled weather, falling temperatures and locally strong storms.

The front will enter from the north-west on Tuesday, but forecast models indicate that it will reach the Valencian Community on Thursday. The heaviest rainfall in Alicante is expected in Marina Alta. The University of Alicante’s Climatology Laboratory has also warned of intense rain in mountainous areas of Marina Baixa, El Comtat and l’Alcoià.

Uncertainty remains about the trough’s development on Friday. The most likely scenario includes locally strong storms in the Balearic Islands and intense showers across the Valencian Community, particularly in northern Alicante and southern Valencia. Meteored has warned of sudden flooding, strong wind gusts, hail and possible waterspouts in areas affected by the most active storms. AEMET currently forecasts rain in northern Alicante from Thursday to Saturday, with residual showers possible over the weekend.
