The president of the Generalitat, Juanfran Pérez Llorca, has announced a €175 million expansion of Torrevieja University Hospital. The project will add 30,000 square metres of floor space and increase the number of beds from 270 to 457. It will also provide 150 new outpatient clinics, four operating theatres, new delivery suites, expanded critical care areas and more intensive care and haemodialysis capacity.

The expansion will be built on an adjoining 11,492-square-metre plot transferred by Torrevieja Town Council. The hospital serves more than 225,000 people across ten municipalities, with demand increasing further during the summer. The work will be delivered in three phases, allowing clinical services to continue. Two years are scheduled for design work, followed by three years of construction.

The plans include a new speciality centre, a day hospital and up to 1,370 parking spaces. The health department will gain 667 staff, with an estimated annual cost of €25.9 million, while 188 additional healthcare posts will be introduced to help reduce waiting lists. Twelve temporary medical consultation rooms will also open soon, alongside planned expansions at health centres in Los Montesinos, San Miguel de Salinas, Guardamar del Segura, La Loma, Pilar de la Horadada and Orihuela Costa.
