School transport to Azorín School in Catral is set to return by Friday or, at the latest, Monday, after around twenty affected families demanded a solution at the start of the academic year.

Mayor Joaquín Lucas Ferrández has contacted Generalitat president Juanfran Pérez Llorca, despite school transport being a regional responsibility. The mayor said the president had responded positively and committed to restoring a service that has operated for several decades.

The regional education department cancelled the route because fewer than the required 15 eligible pupils had been identified. Normally, children must live more than 3 km in a straight line from their school to qualify. However, the rules allow exceptions where access is particularly difficult.

Children from Catral’s Dolores neighbourhood face a journey of roughly three kilometres, taking at least 45 minutes on foot. Families say parts of the route are dangerous because they have neither pavements nor public lighting.
