Two suspected operators of a migrant boat have been brought before a judge after three people were allegedly thrown into the sea off the coast of Murcia. They were placed at the disposal of the courts on Monday, 7 September.
Government delegate Francisco Lucas said the three people who died included a six-month-old baby and a 25-year-old man with pre-existing health conditions. The boat had previously been detected about 45 miles south-east of Cabo de Palos by a Frontex aircraft monitoring the coastline.
However, when Spain’s Maritime Rescue service carried out the rescue, all the boat’s occupants were reportedly in good health. The circumstances surrounding the deaths and the alleged actions of the two operators are now subject to judicial proceedings.
