Spain’s State Meteorological Agency, Aemet, has issued a yellow heat warning for the whole of Valencia province and Alicante’s coast on Monday 7 September. The warning comes into force at 12.00 and covers the central hours of the day.
Temperatures could reach 36°C in coastal areas of Alicante and Valencia, as well as in northern inland Valencia. The highest temperatures are expected in southern inland Valencia, where maxima could reach 38°C.
Aemet says the yellow warning represents a risk for some activities, particularly those carried out outdoors, although it does not indicate extreme weather. People are advised to avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, drink water regularly and take extra care of older people, children and others who are vulnerable to heat.
The warning follows a hot weekend across the region. A yellow warning has also been in force on Sunday for temperatures of up to 36°C on Valencia’s coast and in southern inland Castellón.
