Cala Piteras in Torrevieja remains temporarily closed to swimming after routine water quality checks detected a localised problem. The council has activated its beach management protocol as a precaution, pending the results of further analysis.
Tests found parameters linked to residual contamination, although the source and extent of the issue have not yet been established. The council is working with the relevant authorities to investigate the findings and monitor the situation.
Local Police have closed the bathing area, while lifeguards have raised the red flag and told beach users not to enter the water. The council says the issue is limited to the sampling point analysed.
The beach will reopen once new tests confirm that the water has returned to acceptable levels. The council says it will inform residents and visitors as soon as the swimming restriction is lifted.
