Residents and environmental groups are calling for stronger surveillance around Isla de Adentro, opposite La Isla beach in Puerto de Mazarrón. The area is within a protected Special Area of Conservation, but campaigners say dozens of boats gather there during the day, with more arriving at night. They report loud music and powerful spotlights continuing for hours.

The Playa de la Isla Citizens’ Assembly and Ecologists in Action say the lack of enforcement is harming the marine environment and affecting the peace and safety of residents and holidaymakers. They are particularly concerned about boats anchoring on Posidonia oceanica seagrass meadows, which support coastal biodiversity and help protect beaches. Campaigners say damage from a single anchor can take decades to recover.

Swimmers have also raised concerns about jet skis travelling close to bathing areas. The groups are calling for an updated map of the meadows, clearly marked protected zones, regular inspections for illegal anchoring and low-impact mooring systems. They also want stronger surveillance during peak tourist months and tighter checks on boat and jet ski hire companies.

The calls follow the recent approval of new national rules designed to protect seagrass meadows across the Spanish Mediterranean. Campaigners have welcomed the regulations but say their success will depend on effective enforcement.
