The Orihuela Chamber of Commerce has backed Torrevieja Council’s request for the Spanish Government to tender and build the widening of the N-332 through the city. Chamber president Mario Martínez has described the project as urgent, necessary and important to the wider area.

The chamber says congestion on the N-332 and surrounding roads affects mobility, tourism, trade, public services and economic activity throughout the year, not only during the summer. It wants councils across the Vega Baja to support the project, arguing that problems in Torrevieja also affect businesses and workers in Orihuela and elsewhere.

The organisation has called for a wider transport strategy, including completion of the CV-95 between Orihuela and Torrevieja and the removal of tolls on the AP-7. It says reliable communications are an important factor when businesses consider investment and expansion.

The chamber has also voiced opposition to solar installations on high-value agricultural or tourist land. While supporting renewable energy, it says projects should be planned carefully and could be located on irrigation reservoirs, industrial and municipal building roofs, or around the La Pedrera reservoir. It wants the energy transition to benefit the Vega Baja without reducing productive land or threatening key sectors.
