Torrevieja Town Council has demanded an immediate, permanent and sufficient increase in state security staff after official figures showed that recorded criminal offences rose from 9,316 in 2024 to 10,089 in 2025. The 8.3% increase is the highest total recorded in the city.

The council has highlighted 87 offences against sexual freedom, including 26 sexual assaults involving penetration, which represented a 44.4% increase. It has also reported 1,022 cybercrimes, including 895 cases of online fraud.

Mayor Eduardo Dolón said Torrevieja’s growing registered population and much larger seasonal population require more Guardia Civil and National Police officers. The council has previously requested more than 100 additional Guardia Civil personnel, alongside extra equipment, specialised units and a security plan adapted to the city’s demographic and seasonal needs.

The council is also expanding its own resources. It has increased its recruitment process to 63 local police officer posts and expects the force to reach around 180 officers by 2027. Recruitment is also under way for 30 supervisory positions. Mr Dolón said local police could support the Guardia Civil, but could not replace responsibilities that belong to the national government.
