More than 2,000 people travelling aboard boats have been intercepted in the Region of Murcia through July, according to the Unified Association of Civil Guards, known as the AUGC. The figure is almost twice the number recorded during the same period in 2025.
The latest incident happened on Wednesday at Cala del Barco, in Cartagena. Sixty-one migrants were aboard a large speedboat fitted with four outboard engines. The vessel was able to approach the coast at high speed, land its passengers and escape immediately. The incident follows similar landings reported last year around La Manga and Cabo de Palos.
