Torrevieja council’s governing committee has approved the project for a new heated swimming pool at the Ciudad Deportiva sports complex. The facility will be built behind the Tavi y Carmona Sports Palace and opposite the Cecilio Gallego Pavilion. It has a tender budget of €5,533,669.03 and an expected construction period of 18 months.

Sports councillor Diana Box Alonso said the pool will measure 25 metres by 12.5 metres. It will be suitable for swimming warm-ups and aquatic activities. The building will have a ground floor and a basement, with reception facilities, three changing rooms, toilets, indoor and outdoor seating, service areas, plant rooms, a compensation tank and storage.

The plans also include changes to the surrounding area, including new landscaped spaces, improvements to the existing car park and bicycle parking. Renewable energy sources will provide at least 70% of the annual energy needed for hot water and pool heating, including distribution, storage and recirculation losses. The council says this will create a more efficient and sustainable sports facility.
