Cartagena Civil Protection has rescued 17 people from the Galúa and Entremares beaches at La Manga after they entered the water despite red flags warning of dangerous currents and unsafe bathing conditions.
The rescues took place on Sunday afternoon, during a busy period for tourism that also included Spain’s national holiday for the Assumption of the Virgin Mary. Surveillance teams carried out several interventions after swimmers ignored the areas marked with red flags.
In some cases, people refused to leave the restricted zones. Civil Protection then requested support from Cartagena’s Local Police to help enforce the safety warnings.
