Police in Benidorm have stepped up patrols after detecting a scam involving fake sunbed and parasol sellers on the town’s beaches.

According to the Local Police, fraudsters have been approaching bathers while pretending to be authorised staff. They request payment of around 18 euros for loungers and umbrellas, instead of the official fee of six euros, and issue manipulated tickets designed to resemble genuine receipts.

Officers have reported that the suspects use a clear modus operandi, targeting busy concession areas during the peak summer season. The scam has prompted increased police presence at dawn and throughout the day in an effort to identify those responsible and prevent further incidents.

Police have released images showing the differences between fake and genuine tickets. Visitors and residents are advised to check receipts carefully before paying and to speak to authorised staff if they have any doubts. Officers also warn people to be cautious if the person requesting payment does not properly identify themselves or behaves suspiciously.
