A woman has been arrested in Pilar de la Horadada, in the province of Alicante, after allegedly driving at high speed on the wrong side of the road and biting a Local Police officer.

The incident happened in the early hours of Thursday, according to the Local Police. Officers on patrol spotted the vehicle travelling in the opposite direction at what they described as a very high speed, creating a serious risk to other road users.

After stopping the car, officers attempted to carry out alcohol and drugs tests in line with standard procedure. Police say the driver reacted violently, assaulted the officers and bit one of them on the arm while he was trying to complete a breath test. She was arrested at the scene.

The woman now faces several charges, including dangerous driving, refusing to take a breath test, serious disobedience and assaulting a police officer. Local Police have reminded drivers that driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and carrying out dangerous manoeuvres such as travelling the wrong way, puts lives at risk.
