A man has been arrested by National Police in Santiago de La Ribera, in the municipality of San Javier, after officers discovered 10 kilos of cocaine hidden in his car.
Police said the suspect is believed to be a member of a gang involved in trafficking drugs across the country. He was stopped at a police checkpoint, where officers were carrying out routine controls.
During the search of the vehicle, officers found nine packages containing cocaine concealed in a specially constructed false compartment. According to police sources, the suspect allegedly attempted to run over the officers who were investigating him before he was detained.
An investigation is continuing to determine the full extent of the suspect’s alleged links to organised drug trafficking in the Region of Murcia.
