Torrevieja Town Hall has joined legal proceedings against an illegal street seller arrested after allegedly assaulting a Local Police officer on 14 July. The council is seeking a restraining order to prevent the man from returning to a specific section of the Juan Aparicio promenade, where councillors say repeated incidents have taken place.

Security councillor Federico Alarcón said the suspect was detained, brought before a judge and released. He allegedly returned to the same location shortly afterwards and threatened officers again, including the one he is accused of assaulting.

The proposed order would apply only to that precise area and for a period set by a judge. The council believes that if the suspect breaches the ban, it could amount to breaking a court order, leading to more serious criminal consequences.

The initiative was discussed in coordination meetings involving Local Police, Guardia Civil, the courts, Social Services and Torrevieja Hospital. The council says the aim is to explore new legal tools to tackle persistent illegal street selling, which is usually treated as an administrative offence unless counterfeit goods are involved.
