Work has begun on the construction of a new municipal ecopark in Los Montesinos, marking a significant step forward in the town’s waste management and environmental strategy. The project represents an investment of more than 500,000 euros and is expected to take five months to complete.

The fixed Type C ecopark will be built on a 2,000 square metre plot of land provided free of charge by the council to the Vega Baja Sostenible Consortium, following the signing of a formal agreement. The facility will serve residents of Los Montesinos exclusively and forms part of a wider network aimed at improving selective waste collection and encouraging the recycling of bulky and special household waste.

The municipal building licence was granted in May 2026, bringing to an end a lengthy administrative process involving coordination between several public bodies. Mayor José Manuel Butrón has described the start of works as an important milestone for the town.

He said the project would deliver better services for residents and reflects the council’s commitment to sustainability and environmental protection. The new ecopark is expected to promote recycling, support the circular economy and contribute to more efficient and responsible waste management across the municipality.
