The Valencian government has launched a grant scheme covering up to 80% of the cost of replacing combustion engines with electric motors in boats operating in protected natural parks.

The programme, managed by Ivace+i and overseen by the regional Ministry for Industry, Tourism, Innovation and Commerce, has allocated 400,000 euros. It applies to vessels authorised to sail in La Albufera de València, El Hondo de Elche and Las Salinas de Torrevieja. Applications are open until 28 July 2026.

The initiative aims to reduce pollution and noise in environmentally sensitive areas that are home to significant wildlife, including migratory birds. At present, many authorised boats use petrol engines, which can generate exhaust fumes, fuel or oil spills, and underwater noise that directly affect flora and fauna.

Grants are available for fishing, leisure, tourism and traditional sailing vessels, provided they hold the required navigation permits. Boats must also install an energy storage system that does not use lead-acid technology. Officials say the calm waters and short routes in these parks make them well suited to electric propulsion.
