A 53-year-old man has been arrested after allegedly stabbing his 55-year-old wife and their 21-year-old daughter to death at their home in the rural area of Cañada del Fenollar in Alicante. The attack happened on Thursday.
A second daughter of the couple alerted the 112 emergency number. When Guardia Civil officers arrived at the property, they found the two women dead inside the family home. The suspected attacker and the surviving daughter were also inside, both suffering from knife wounds.
All four are Spanish nationals. The father has been detained and remains in hospital along with his injured daughter.
Investigators are treating the case as a possible incident of gender-based violence. According to sources close to the investigation, there were no prior reports concerning the couple on Spain’s VioGén monitoring system for gender violence cases. The investigation remains ongoing.
