Unemployment in the Valencian Community fell by 2,445 people in June, a monthly drop of 0.9%, leaving 281,651 people registered as unemployed. According to the Ministry of Labour and Social Economy, this is the lowest figure for a June since 2008 and marks the fifth consecutive monthly decline.

Since comparable records began in 1996, unemployment in the region has fallen in June on 23 occasions and risen only four times. Over the past year, the total number of unemployed people has dropped by 11,964, a decrease of 4.1%.

By sector, unemployment fell mainly in Services, down 2,303, and in Industry, down 390. However, it rose slightly in Construction, Agriculture and among those without previous employment. Services continues to account for the largest share of jobseekers, with 197,776 people.

Unemployment declined in all three provinces, with the biggest fall in Alicante, followed by Castellón and Valencia. In June, 152,276 contracts were signed in the region, up 6.5% on a year earlier. Of these, 75,457 were permanent contracts, an increase of 15.3%, while temporary contracts fell slightly to 76,819.
