Police have arrested several suspects in connection with thefts reported in late 2025 at the Church of Nuestra Señora del Carmen in Los Urrutias and the chapel of Santa María del Rosell Hospital in Cartagena.
Investigations into the incidents enabled officers to identify and detain those allegedly responsible. The arrests bring some relief to both religious communities, which had been awaiting progress in the case for several months.
However, the outcome has been described as bittersweet. By the time the investigation advanced and the suspects were located, most of the stolen items had already disappeared.
Authorities have not confirmed whether any of the missing property has been recovered. Enquiries remain ongoing as officers attempt to trace the remaining items and determine whether further arrests may follow.
