Orihuela Local Police have arrested a man following a violent incident in which several officers were injured. The arrest came after a member of the public alerted police to a suspicious vehicle whose driver attempted to identify himself using another person’s licence.

A roadside drug test returned a positive result for cocaine. When officers confirmed his true identity, they found he was the subject of multiple search and arrest warrants issued by courts across Spain. Police also established that he did not hold a valid driving licence.

During the arrest, the suspect reportedly became aggressive and caused damage to a patrol car. While being transported to a medical centre, he broke a window and the door frame of the moving vehicle in an attempt to escape, managing to flee on foot.

After a pursuit through a nearby residential area, officers caught and restrained him. He was taken back into custody under escort and has since been placed before the courts.
