Three people over the age of 65 have died in the Valencian Community after extreme heat in recent days, according to the Daily Mortality Monitoring System, known as MoMo, run by the Carlos III Health Institute.
Two of the deaths were recorded on 23 June and another on 22 June, bringing the total number of heat-related deaths in the region to seven so far this month. The fatalities coincide with a heatwave that has affected much of Spain, with temperatures reaching up to 42C in parts of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands.
By province, two of the June deaths were recorded in Alicante, two in Castellón and three in Valencia. All of those who died were aged over 65.
High temperatures are continuing to trigger weather alerts in several autonomous communities. Forecasters have warned that parts of north-eastern Spain and the Balearic Islands could see temperatures of between 38C and 39C, as the heatwave persists.
