Firefighters have extinguished a garage fire on Avenida del Mar in Punta Prima, Orihuela Costa, a main road in the northern part of the coastal residential area bordering Torrevieja.
The alarm was raised at 15:11 on Wednesday, and crews from the Torrevieja fire station were deployed to the scene. According to the Provincial Firefighters’ Consortium, the incident was declared under control at 17:11, after around two hours of work.
The fire is believed to have started in the electric battery used to operate the garage door. The blaze produced a significant amount of smoke, but no injuries were reported. Damage was limited to property.
Punta Prima is known for its family atmosphere and proximity to the beach. The area mainly consists of detached villas, with a small number of apartment buildings along Avenida del Mar, where there is also a small church, a children’s playground and a well-known restaurant.
