Two men have died after separate drowning incidents on beaches in Alicante province. The emergencies occurred on Sunday in the municipalities of Pilar de la Horadada and Torrevieja, according to the regional Emergency Information and Coordination Centre.

In the first case, at 19:40, the centre received an alert that a 24-year-old man had been pulled unconscious from the sea at Mil Palmeras beach in Pilar de la Horadada. A SAMU advanced life support unit and a basic life support ambulance were dispatched. Despite prolonged cardiopulmonary resuscitation and advanced life support techniques, there was no response and his death was confirmed at the scene.

Earlier that afternoon, at 16:45, emergency services were called after another man was rescued unconscious from a cove in Torrevieja. A SAMU unit attended and attempted resuscitation, but he could not be revived. His age has not been released.

Officials have said that post-mortem examinations will determine the exact causes of both drownings.
