Torrevieja Council has confirmed that its new urban bus service is expected to begin on 1 July, following approval of the fare structure by the local government board. The updated network will include 12 routes, among them two circular lines and a night service operating during the summer months, aimed at serving a population of more than 110,000 people.

Under the new system, around 80% of users will pay for travel. Free transport will be reserved for pensioners, people over 65 who have been registered in the town for more than a year, and certain residents with disabilities. A standard single ticket will cost 1.50 euros, while travel cards and discounted passes will also be available.

These include a 10-journey pass for 11 euros and a 20-journey pass for 22 euros. Reduced fares will apply to under-26s, large families and long-term unemployed residents. A monthly Bono 30 will cost 44 euros, and a tourist travel card will offer unlimited travel for three days at 10 euros or seven days at 18 euros.

The 10-year contract with Avanza, worth 67 million euros, has already been formalised. However, the new fleet of 32 hybrid and electric buses is not expected to arrive until next year, and upgrades to more than 200 bus stops are likely to be delayed until 2027.
