Benidorm Local Police have intercepted an electric scooter that reached 104 km per hour after a pursuit of more than 2 km through the city centre on Saturday afternoon. The incident began when the rider failed to stop at a checkpoint for personal mobility vehicles.

Officers said the scooter travelled at high speed along several busy streets, including Gambo, Pérez Llorca, Primavera, Emilio Ortuño, Arco Iris and Sol, as well as areas near the beach and the Town Hall. Despite the speed and the number of pedestrians in the area, no collisions or injuries were reported.

After stopping the vehicle, police carried out a technical inspection and found modifications that allowed it to exceed the legal speed limits for this type of transport. The recorded top speed of 104 km per hour was confirmed using official police metrology equipment.

The rider has been reported for dangerous driving, failing to obey a police order, having no compulsory insurance and lacking the required registration certificate. Police said checks on personal mobility vehicles will continue to ensure compliance with traffic laws and to improve road safety.
