Torrevieja has inaugurated Paseo del Mar, a major new leisure, dining and retail complex on the Levante Dock, marking a significant transformation of the city’s waterfront. The opening ceremony brought together regional and local leaders, including the Mayor of Torrevieja, Eduardo Dolón, and representatives of the Valencian government.

Built with an investment of more than €60 million, the development offers 27 businesses across more than 10,500 square metres of commercial space. Designed as an open, pedestrian-friendly area, it features terraces, walkways and views across the Mediterranean, aiming to reconnect residents with the sea after decades in which the port acted as a physical barrier.

City officials have described the project as one of the most important urban transformations in recent decades. In addition to reshaping the seafront, the complex is expected to generate more than 400 direct jobs and forms part of a wider redevelopment of the port area involving over €100 million in public and private investment.

Leaders say Paseo del Mar is intended to be more than a shopping centre, combining gastronomy, entertainment and public space in a single waterfront setting. The project is seen as a symbol of Torrevieja’s ongoing renewal, balancing tourism growth with an improved quality of life for residents while restoring the city’s historic connection to the sea.
